SA Masters Swimmers win Gold in Perth
Two South Australian masters swimmers have returned to Adelaide with Gold medals from the
World Championships held in Perth over the last 2 weeks. Over 3,300 swimmers from all over
the world participated. Over 60 South Australian masters swimmers took part in the
championships.
Graham Croft (Adelaide Masters 60–64 years) swam sensationally throughout the meet and
returned home with 4 Gold and 1 Silver from his 5 pool swims. This included a world record in
the 400 m Freestyle in which he shaved 3 seconds from the old record.
Stephanie Palmer-White (Adelaide Masters 40-44 years) won Gold in the 200 m Butterfly as
well as Silver in the 800 m Freestyle and the 400 m Freestyle.
Other Silver medal winners were Stephanie Jones (Atlantis 50-54 years ) in the 200 Backstroke
and Glen Walker (Atlantis 45-48 years) in 200 Butterfly.
Andrew Ragless (Atlantis 30-34 years) won Bronze in the 200 Breaststroke.
A further 12 females and 10 males finished in the top ten for their events. Mark Smedley
(Adelaide Masters 45-49 years) and Deborah Winslett (Adelaide Masters 30-34 years) finished
in the top ten of all 5 events they contested – another fine achievement against world class
swimmers.
Many swimmers also competed in the 3 Km Open Water Swim held in the swan River on the last
day of the Championships. Graham Croft (Adelaide Masters 60-64 years) and John Baranoff
(Adelaide Masters 30-34 years) won Gold in their age groups.
